I think the ocean is behind the school so it's going to be visible from the window.

Dead carcasses typically bloat with gas from the decomposition of their internal organs until the peritoneum bursts, so they tend to float. And then they typically wash ashore by the normal motion of the ocean. So yeah, probably. Alternatively, it could have swum too far inland and then been stranded when the tide went out.
